Conman ordered to repay victims

An insurance conman who stole over £91,000 has been ordered to pay back just £9,500 to his victims. Mark Fairfield, from Sheffield, tricked elderly customers into paying him more than £91,000 by falsely claiming he still worked for an insurance company after being made redundant. He lied to his previous clients and flasified documents.

Fairfield, aged 38, was ordered by Sheffield Crown Court to pay back only £9,500 – because he doesn’t have enough money to fully compensate his victims.

A confiscation order was made for the money which the judge awarded as compensation to his victims.
