A slipped disc can be an excruciatingly painful. It is most often caused by one of the discs of cartilage that sit between the bones in the spine splitting, and some of the soft gel inside this disc leaks out. This leaking gel can put pressure on the spinal cord, leading to pain not only in the area around that particular disc, but also in any part of your body that is controlled by the nerves that the disc is pressing on.
A number of these discs can be damaged by a sudden Slip, Trip of Fallespecially if you land awkwardly, or in a Road Traffic Accident. It is also possible to suffer a slipped disc injury as a result of lifting or any physical exertion that puts a lot of pressure on your back.
