If you have been in an accident, you may not have just sustained some sort of physical trauma but may also suffer from psychiatric damage, which in more serious cases can be post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Psychiatric injuries are most common in victims who have been involved in a life threatening incident, most often as a result of a vehicle collision or a fall from height or was involved in an accident involving a fatality. It is also possible for someone to suffer with PTSD without having sustained a physical injury but still suffer from PTSD, for example when the victim witnesses’ a fatal accident involving a family member. There are a wide range of potential mental illness that can be brought on by an involvement in an accident and the mere fact that the victim is injured, particularly on a long-term basis, is sufficient in some cases to produce sufficient mental disturbance to justify a psychiatric injury claim.
