Abrasions

An abrasion is a type of injury that is caused by superficial damage to the skin that penetrates no deeper than the epidermis layer. It is less severe than a Laceration Injury, and any bleeding is minimal, and is sometimes not present. Mild abrasions are grazes and scrapes which do not scar or bleed. Deeper abrasions, however, may lead to scar tissue forming. Abrasions occur most commonly when skin is exposed and comes into contact with a moving rough surface, which acts grinding or rubbing away the upper layers of the epidermis.

As with most wounds, the healing time of abrasions will vary based on the severity of the injury and the methods of treatment. A mild, treated abrasion could take merely a few days to heal, whereas an untreated wound could take more than a week. The deeper the wound, the longer it will take to heal.
